Volunteers hoped on Sunday, at least be able to save two whales and six dolphins, as local media reported. Animals should be at high tide again towed into deeper water. Among the stranded animals were about 70 pilot whales and 20 Bottlenose dolphins.
Often remain such bailouts failed because the animals often return again and stranded. Why get cetaceans masse in shallow water, scientists still can not explain certain.
"The people who witness such things are often quite desperate," said Shelley Davison, a spokeswoman of the Tasmanian Nature and Wildlife Authority, the broadcaster ABC. "It's an emotional thing when so many whales throw to the beach."
